There’s one word for Le Mas Des Carassins, where we stayed: special (in the best way possible). The same word can be applied to Provence itself. Set in the heart of the “golden triangle” (Nimes, Aix, Avignon), and at the foot of the Alpilles, a short 7 minute stroll from the centre of St Remy town, it’s the perfect location. An oasis of calm and tranquility, such that you feel a million miles away from all your worries. The two hotel pools, surrounded by a 1000 square meters of succulent gardens, offer a welcome relief from the summer heat.
Accommodation includes daily breakfast and, if you so choose, dinner in the spectacular garden restaurant setting. Dinner includes a 5 course meal; the menu changes daily according to what can be locally sourced. The food was, quite simply, spectacular.
St Remy houses a weekly market (on Wednesday mornings) which is among the best I’ve ever been to. From gigantic rounds of every cheese imaginable cut fresh to order, to brightly coloured fresh fruits and vegetables, to spectacular arts and crafts, to beautifully woven and tailored cotton and linen clothing, it’s an absolute treat for the senses.
I will remember this trip for a long time to come.
